Democracy

You know what grinds my gears? Democracy.

I know what you're thinking. "Communist!" No. I don't hate the American system of government. I hate democracy in it's true form. True democracy takes into the account every single person's vote to arrive at decisions. We don't live in a democracy. We live in a republic. They're different.

Now that I've offended you, let me tell you why democracy is such a bad idea. It is a bad idea because in a democracy everyone has an opinion that is valued. Everyone deserves respect, but an opinion on political matters? Forget about it.

I am a college educated man, and I like to think that means something. But if our government issued a poll throughout the nation to decide whether X should be outlawed and I know nothing about X or am not aware of all the issues surrounding X, then my vote should not count because I would not be able to make a well thought-out decision.

In a true democracy, the layperson is given as much power as the expert on fragile and incredibly important issues, and it grinds my gears.
